I am a huge fan of guerilla marketing. If done effectively, small guerilla marketing campaigns can make a big impact and stir up a lot user attention and activity.
Foremost, guerilla efforts are cheap, fun and unexpected—just the way I like all marketing to be. For a little inspiration on how to shake up your Facebook Page, check out these guerilla marketing ideas:
IMPRESS WITH A PHOTO STRIP
You can be really creative with this one. By making a branded Facebook Page photo strip, you’re able to develop a unique, fluid and even funny message with your wall’s visible photo header. I like to think of it as creating a storyboard.
Don’t know how to do this? No worries, here’s how:
- Step 1: Get your pics
You’ll notice that the photo strip on your Facebook Page is composed of 5 separate images. Go ahead and choose 5 photos you want to be displayed. Bear in mind, unlike on a personal Facebook Page, you do not have control over the order of your images on a business Page so choose images that will look good in various arrangements. Also note, the order of your images will be changed every time your page is refreshed.
- Step 2: Scaling
To look best, the last 5 images that you upload to be displayed onto your photo strip need be scaled down to 97×68 pixels. If your images are not already that size, cropping can be done to achieve the correct image proportions.
- Step 3: Make a separate photo album
To keep your photo strip images well organized, it’s recommended that you create a separate album just for your photo strip pictures. Trust me; this will make updating your photo strip with new images easier.
- Step 4: Upload
That’s it, you’re ready to upload and publish your pictures. The 5 images you chose will be instantly loaded onto your Facebook Page’s photo strip. It looks nice, doesn’t it!?
- Step 5: Maintenance
Every time other images are uploaded to your wall or album, it will automatically insert that newest image into your photo strip. To avoid this and to maintain your current photo strip photos, all you have to do is press the “x” at the top right corner of the unwanted image.

CREATE A SPECIAL DAY
As a kid I clearly remember Wednesdays at my house–McDonald’s 69 cent cheeseburgers made hump day famous where I lived. Going along with the said theme, why not create a little unexpected tradition for your Page (the running time frame can be all up to you), if you will. For example, Shout Out Saturdays could be a day to acknowledge an awesome fan, or Fun Fact Friday can be a way to create content for future promotional ideas. After a week has passed, take the fact down and ask your users to recall the fact for a prize. Have I got you thinking yet?
CLOCK ‘EM
Contesting and promotions are fun, but what about adding a twist to the same ole’, same ole’. Create some urgency by setting a time limit for people to enter and too, reward the first X amount of participating users with a prize, coupon…whatever. Just make it fun : )
CAMERA READY?
Have you ever heard of the site ibeatyou.com? Essentially, it’s a website were anyone can take part in a contest or challenge through submitting either a photo or video. Upon completion of your contest or challenge, you then can ask other users to challenge you at the same task. This is a great resource for getting those creative juices flowing. Also, if you ask me, the more quirky and light-hearted the challenge, the better.
There’s no end to the amount of ways you can get your users involved on Facebook. Guerilla marketing is intended to be out-of-the-box, so think accordingly. And remember, the more effort you put into getting your users involved on Facebook, the better the outcome. GOOD LUCK!
