Scheduling Widget Visibility for Fanpages

Want to really impress your clients this weekend? Make it look like you spent the 4th of July weekend (for those of you here in the States) working on tabs! Don’t worry, no barbeques need to be missed, you can just schedule a widget to go live during the weekend (or come down) – just let ShortStack do the work for you.

As you may already know, ShortStack allows you to change your widget visibility settings. In addition to this, users can also schedule visibility of individual widgets. Scheduling widgets is a convenient way to run contests, promotions, showcase upcoming events, or make seasonal changes to your Page. The great thing about scheduling is that you’re able to update multiple pieces of content without having to edit your tab every time. So, for those who haven’t used scheduling before, here’s how to use it.

There are three aspects to scheduling, they include:

1. Starting At- Choose a date to begin displaying this widget on your tab. It will remain hidden until this date.

2. Ending At- Choose a date to stop displaying this widget on your tab. At this date it will disappear from your tab.

3. Time Zone- Choose the time zone you wish to use for the Starting/Ending settings.

Each widget can be scheduled individually. To do this, simply click on the “configure widget” icon of whatever widget you wish to update. At the top of that tab, click on “options” and then in the options screen, click “configure visibility”. You’ll then see a dropdown menu with options.

Here you’re able to update the viewer visibility (on the left hand side), as well as the scheduling.

To update when your widget will first become visible to your users, simply click the “starting at” box and a calendar will pop up, from there you can simply select the date and time you wish to have your widget become visible. The default time for visibility is 00:00, which is midnight military time of the day you selected. You can change this to any time you wish by just entering the time (in military time) after the date.

It’s important to remember to update the time zone when scheduling visibility, the wrong time zone could mess up your start and end dates. The default time zone is (GMT +00:00) UTC.

That’s all there is to it! If you have a promotion or contest coming up, try scheduling, it makes organizing and managing your tab much easier.
